My vote goes to monty python and the holy grail, each scene has more memroble quotes then every other movie combined

ArchiducCharles29 May 2009 1:26 p.m. PST

Army of Darkness
Pulp Fiction
Star Wars, first trilogy

I do think it's purely subjective, though.

Jovian129 May 2009 1:45 p.m. PST

Most over-used quote – Star Wars – how many times do you hear "use the force" in gaming – even in historical games?

Gunfreak29 May 2009 1:54 p.m. PST

But how many other movies can more or less be quoted word for word, only the holy grail.

EVERYBODY knows the fight with the black knight word for word even if they have never seen the movie.

I remember when I was on the return of the king premire.
They had this big show and one of the things they had was a mock up fight between an orc and a ranger.
Well what happend during the fight, people started to shout lines for the fight with the black knight.
It's only a flesh wound, what are you going to do? bleed on me?

Streitax29 May 2009 1:54 p.m. PST

Dirty Harry, if you count total number of times any quote from the movie is used.

DesertScrb29 May 2009 2:06 p.m. PST

Blues Brothers:

"We're on a mission from God."

"I hate Illinois Nazis."

"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearning sunglasses."
"Hit it."

"Class! Dismissed!"
"That's FRHANK-Enstein!"
"What Hump?"
"Frau Blucher"
"And What did YOU get from the Monster?"
"Roll, Roll, Roll in Ze hay…"
"Puttin oahn da Riiiiiz"

Farstar29 May 2009 3:49 p.m. PST

Spaced Invaders ranks up there, but is a bit obscure.
"Prepare to die, Earth Scum!"
"I have not yet begun to fight!" "Well NOW would be a good time to start!"
"Who died and left YOU in charge?" "Captain Bipto."
"Remember to look both ways before crossing the street." "Ah, if only Captain Bipto had known."
"You want to hear something funny?" "Sure." "Well you're gonna hear it right about… now."

Honorable Mentions:

Ghostbusters
"When someone asks if you're a god, say 'YES'!"

Princess Bride
"Have fun storming the castle!"

Heavy Metal
"You just have to run your hands over the controls like you're straight."

Twister
"Cow."
"Another cow."
"No. I think that's the same one."

Starship Troopers
"Bugs, Mr. Rico. Millions of them."

Scent of a Woman
"Booyah!"

Full Metal Jacket:

Door Gunner: Git some! Git some! Git some, yeah, yeah, yeah! Anyone that runs, is a VC. Anyone that stands still, is a well-disciplined VC! You guys oughta do a story about me sometime!

Private Joker: Why should we do a story about you?

Door Gunner: 'Cuz I'm so Bleepin' good! I done got me 157 dead gooks killed. Plus 50 water buffalo too! Them's all confirmed!

Private Joker: Any women or children?

Door Gunner: Sometimes!

Private Joker: How can you shoot women or children?

Door Gunner: It's easy! Ya just don't lead 'em so much! Ain't war hell?

Well, I'm strictly Old School, so its a toss-up between "The Maltese Falcon" and "Casablanca". And for everyone else, well, "We'll always have Paris."

2bit elroy29 May 2009 6:45 p.m. PST

Holy Grail
Blues Brothers
Animal House
Ghostbusters (only the first one)

Most over-used quote – Star Wars – how many times do you hear "use the force" in gaming – even in historical games?

"I have a bad feeling about this."

Atomic Floozy29 May 2009 9:43 p.m. PST

"I remember every detail, the Germans wore gray, you wore blue."

"Realizing the importance of the case, my men are rounding up twice the number of usual suspects."

"Here's looking at you, kid."

"Major Strassor has been shot! Round up the usual suspects."

"I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!"

"We'll always have Paris."

"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."

Bugatti: "You despise me, don't you?"
Rick: "If I gave you any thought, I probably would."

Major Strassor: "What's your nationality?"
Rick "I'm a drunkard."

… another vote for Casablanca.

mweaver29 May 2009 9:46 p.m. PST

A lot of good suggestions, but in the circles I hang out in, the answer has to be the first one given on the thread – Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Big Trouble in Little China is another one with a lot of fun lines.

highlandcatfrog29 May 2009 10:43 p.m. PST

1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail

2. Blazing Saddles

3. Life of Brian

4. Toss up between Duck Soup and Horsefeathers

5. Anything from the Three Stooges

6. Army of Darkness

Ed Mohrmann30 May 2009 4:15 a.m. PST

Zorro, The Gay Blade

And of course the others upthread…

Klebert L Hall30 May 2009 8:07 a.m. PST

But how many other movies can more or less be quoted word for word, only the holy grail.

Many people can recite The Rocky Horror Picture Show, even with me hitting them.

Buckaroo Banzai has many good quotes.

Joe Vs. The Volcano. Or maybe that's just me.

Pictors Studio30 May 2009 9:05 a.m. PST

Holy Grail wins hands down around here.

For TV shows it is definitely Arrested Development.

freewargamesrules30 May 2009 3:04 p.m. PST

Holy Grail here too followed by Life of Brian

Mikhail Lerementov30 May 2009 3:47 p.m. PST

I still like Billy Bob Thornton's comment as he watches the Mexican Army march into San Jacinto.

"We're gonna need a lot more men."

Cincinnatus30 May 2009 10:05 p.m. PST

Holy Grail is an obvious choice but what about Caddyshack???

Martin31 May 2009 9:18 a.m. PST

How about Branagh's Hamlet? It's the whole 4 hours of the play and has many, many quotes you hear all the time.

andygamer31 May 2009 9:34 a.m. PST

Pytons, Mel Brooks' films and SCTV film parodies. "Forget it, Johnny, it's Polynesiatown."

The G Dog Fezian31 May 2009 7:55 p.m. PST

The Big Lebowski's been popular with my crew for a while now.

Holy Grail is certainly a classic.

Its not a movie, but Futurama has been getting near daily usage in the office.

"Good news, everyone!"

SBSchifani31 May 2009 9:49 p.m. PST

Caddyshack

They mostly misquote Aliens. Mostly.

Why don't you put BILL in charge?

I got a bad feeling about this Thread.

a day on TMP is like a day on the Farm.

Farstar01 Jun 2009 2:03 p.m. PST

"The Big Lebowski's been popular with my crew for a while now."

I obviously need to watch that again. The one time a saw it, in the theater, is now a mostly empty hole in my memory. Only much later did it emerge that this movie needs to be watched at least twice with at least a year in between viewings.

Altius02 Jun 2009 12:51 p.m. PST

And not one mention of The Godfather? I based my whole life on the wisdom of Don Corleone!

So many great lines from that one.

OttoMunoz05 Jun 2009 12:23 p.m. PST

Casablanca
Star Wars
Idiocracy
Guns of Navarone
I misquote Aliens all the time when me and my Girlfriend talk.

"Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me"

MiniPatton25 Aug 2009 1:00 p.m. PST

Tommy Boy anyone?

Holy Grail is pretty universal.

I tend to quote A Bridge Too Far a lot…

Hexxenhammer25 Aug 2009 1:22 p.m. PST

My group tends to quote Ah-nold a lot.

Especially, "They have clowned me!"

Smoke325 Aug 2009 3:55 p.m. PST

Big Lebowski has always been my favorite, although a lot of people don't know it anymore…shame.

Long ago friends of mine and I quoted our favorite movies of the time: Orgazmo and Office Space.

If I never hear anyone quoting Buford from "Gettysburg" again it will be too soon.

For the record it was "Lovely ground…" More used by Civil War Reenactors than wargamers….
