HI all, On a previous post I asked for some advice on solo boardgames – lots of help, thanks – but I wonder if anybody has played either Field Commander Alexander of FC Rommel? I have checked out the review on Boardgame Geek but wondered if anybody on TMP has played them and, if so, what your thoughts are on the games/s. Thanks. |

Played field commander Rommels ghost division scenario twice. Its very hard to win. First few moves are crucial. My second attempt I gave up after first turn as disastrous results in first turn. Boardgame geek has recommended opening strategies posted. Maps are so small It can actually fit it on a food tray so its handy if you lack time or space to finish in one sitting. One thing that struck me about the ghost division scenario is that counters represent regiments and there are only about 16 counters in play at the start so it's only an abstraction of one part of the battle for france in 1940 even though it's played out over most of northern france. Also combat is basic die rolling low is good so a few high rolls for you or low for the allies will mean defeat. Overall I recommend it. It's a challenging but simple to play way of getting a gaming fix. |
