Well, that seems preposterous enough for today. |

Appeared in the British press as well. I suppose it's a matter of equal opportunities and positive discrimination :( |

"Jamie would seem to be born to the role
" That has to be the most ironic statement of the whole thing. |

In a related story, T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh has been cast in the leading role in a dramatic biopic about the life of Gilda Radner. |

The Onion? That is plain silly and I hope it is a dud. |

This story kinda reminds me of a 'Designing Women' episode I saw entitled "The Rowdy Girls". In it, the ladies are about to perform as The Supremes in a talent show, and Suzanne (Delta Burke) suggests they make their act "authentic" by applying dark makeup. The exchange goes thusly: MARY JO: Suzanne, we can't go around in black face! That's racist! SUZANNE: Why? If Dustin Hoffman was gonna play Martin Luther King, you don't think he'd wear black makeup? JULIA: Suzanne, Dustin Hoffman would never play Martin Luther King -- that part would go to a black actor! SUZANNE: Well I think that's racist! I mean, I think it should go to whoever the best person is --- and that could be Dustin Hoffman. It's funny, until it becomes reality. |

Have to say that for stage performances in the UK, I think it's actually illegal to 'black up' now to play a black part. If it's a farce and you're white, pretending to be black as part of the plot then it's ok, but otherwise you just don't do it! Strangely it's also against the rules to advertise for a specific minority group. A friend of mine is doing a stage show of the musical 'Full Monty' and they needed a black actor to play the role of black guy in it (it's also specified in the script and lines that he is black!) but he wasn't able to advertise it a 'Black actor required'. ing ridiculous!

The story is bogus. I doubt that Sinatra's daughter – who is one of the producers – would have someone so ethnically diverse play the role of her father. I think they also got two stories crossed as Scorsese has been developing a Dean Martin movie for about a dozen years. Wyatt |

"Wouldn't be so unusual. Cate Blanchett played Bob Dylan" Ummm, bad example: apples and oranges. Just looking at the facial structure and body types of Foxx & Sinatra and it does not come even close to a plausible match – the example you chose DOES have that plausibility in a quasi-androgenous sort of way. |

I posted a joke note on Weird Universe once, after there were complaints about a US School pageant casting an African American girl as Abraham Lincoln - CASTING FOR 125th BOND MOVIE ANNOUNCED The actor to play archetypical British hero James Bond in the latets production "Ripsaw Imperiative" was revealed yesterday, and has already started a controversy; The Broccoli Company announced that 33YO actor Xiang Lee from Sweden has been chosen to play the next Bond. But Arthur M'boto-Phillips, current president of the British-based Ian Fleming Fan Club has severe reservations about the casting. "I don't think our members are going to be pleased with the choice" He commented, " As most of them have grown up with Atheson, and besides which, it's been a tradition for at least the lifetimes of our members for Bond to be played by someone of English birth." Pamela Atheson, the Afro-Carribean actor whose performance as Bond catapulted the star from Brixton to the world stage, played Bond in over 20 productions beating all previous records. She was unavailable for comment, as she is currently on location filming a remake of the comedy classic "Little Nicky", one of President Sandler's great films. |
