I get them too. After the last purge, 1/2 the office is empty but still have phones. The phantoms ring from time to time wih the Factory Warranty crap.

They drive me crazy, I get them on my cell phone and my land line. The thing that I love is that my car is not yet two years old and it has a 100000 mile warranty, I don't think they know what they are talking about.

I just ignore them, though they're annoying. Caller ID is a wonderful thing… If ou identify yourself, I'll answer (if I choose) -- no ID, no chance.

A friend of mine bought an extended warranty from the dealership on a Volkswagen Beetle (new style). When the car started having numerous problems, he took it in for service only to be told that the warranty company had gone bankrupt, so therefore the dealership didn't have to provide the coverage.
(Given the fact that my friend is a large, healthy individual who likes the biker look, I'm surprised they had the guts to say that to him… but I digress). He raised a ruckus, called in some help from some influential friends (community leaders, not bikers), and got the work done. But he vocally tells people to avoid that dealership, and won't touch extended warranties to this day.

Our paper had an article today about them. Most are in Missouri and they are, basically, a scam. The Feds are finally investigating them. I hope they nail some of them as their calls are way beyond annoying.

Part of the rant is that I work for a State Agency anwe get these at work. I REALLY want to turn this over to the Attorney General.

Get the phone calls and the snail-mails.

Reported 'em to the 'do not call' cops…

They are carpet-calling. My car is 15 years old, nearing 300k miles, and I get these calls constantly. Its tempting to actually call them and extract a promise before telling them the age of the car, but I'm not sure I could keep a straight face…

When I actually stayed on the line with one and got a Real Person on the line, I allowed him to go into his deal about what a great idea it would be to extend my warranty as it was just about to run out.

I said, 'you know that is a wonderful idea, can you take a credit card?' You could almost hear the Cha CHING!!! in his voice as he excitedly said yes Sir!.

I then said, "okay which of my vehicles has the warranty running out." (We have a Honda Odessy, a Ford 350 diesel, a Toyota matrix, a honda goldwing trike and I have a custom chopper (see my profile pic). Bungholio on the phone knew none of that, and he was STUMPED.)

Bungholio "I'm not, aaaahh what do you mean which one aaahh"

me: "you mean your trying to extort me for money for a vehicle warranty and you don't even know what vehicle? And since I'm on the do not call list I expect you just dialing my number is breaking the law."

They are being sued by the state of Indiana and investigated by 30 other states.

You can file complaints here: donotcall.gov

These calls come from automatic dialers, so they are technically under the no call radar

Recently a US Senator was called and annoyed, something may be done

Wyatt the Odd Fezian14 May 2009 6:37 p.m. PST

Its mostly one particular company that's doing this with auto-dialers so they're even hitting cell phones. As Wargames Mom said, a Senator just got called so the likelihood of their impending doom is increasing.

Aside from logging them on the DoNotCall.gov site, if I'm feeling particularly malicious, I'll wait for the live human and then use a police whistle. Then I ask them how they like their career choice.

They haven't called in a while. I'm not certain whether it worked, or they're just going through the rotation. Either way, it'll be a win for me.
