Read a book a long while back, around 1987 give or take three years.

Started with a Jesuit priest stealing the Turin Shroud and the Vatican getting chemists to reconstitute the blood and clone… well, you get the idea… they are convinced the shroud was the Messiah's and are trying to "force" God's hand by making the Second Coming on their terms.

The clone grew up a priest and eventually manifested supernatural powers and took on what would be the religious pretenders and money changer of our day, etc…

Had a twist ending I wont give away here in case anyone else wants to get it also, but I'd like to reread it if I could recall the title…

Well, there was "Christ Clone" by David McLeod last year.

Then there was "The Christ Clone Trilogy" by James BeauSeigneur but they were published in the late 90s.

And there was "The Blood of the Lamb" by Thomas F. Monteleone published in the early 90s.

My guess it is the last one.

I vaguely thing I read it (and was underwhelmed), but I think I traded the book away to a local second-hand bookstore so can't check title and author.

Thanks, Gorb.

Shopped the title around Google for a synopsis, and it was, "Blood of the Lamb."

Bullseye.
