Or, tales of a Census Taker. While on my rounds yesterday verifying mailing addresses, a forlorn boy about 11 was walking his pet rat. Actually, he had a white and brown spotted rat in a cage, and HE was walking. He asked "Mister, is it OK if I let him go here?" "What?" "I have to get rid of him, and is this an OK spot?" "I don't know, I don't live here." I said, passing the buck
Just then, the couple who lived there drove up. He asked them. The wife oooed and ahhhed over the cute rat, but declined to take him in. I suggested he call his friends or the SPCA. The sad boy wandered off. Any guesses what this scenario implied? |

Poor kid. Poor rat. They do make good pets, being intelligent creatures, but I can see Mom not particularly wanting one around the house. |

We have a pet rat and he is very cute and friendly. They do make great pets. Unfortunately letting a pet rat out in the wild is really not an option, they could never look after themselves. Ours is so pleased to see us that he'd be begging food off the first person to walk past, probably not an ideal situation. |
