Well, it's been announced tonight that a major school district in North Texas, the Fort Worth ISD, is hereby closed effective tomorrow until May 8th. Seems as though there is one confirmed case of a student with swine flu, along with three probable cases, and the four schools affected will be closed until May 11.

Wow.

I'm shocked !!! Shocked I tell you !!!

The Central Texas schools are taking TAKS tests the next two days. Want to bet they close starting Monday?

One Austin elementary school closed today through May 11. One student was suspected of having swine flu – unconfirmed case so far.

And we have had the contingency plan rolled out for us to work from home if necessary.

How much y'all wanna bet that school might be extended about a week into the summer break, provided everything settles down?

Incredible.

Our district is doing one last TAKS test, tomorrow. I'm betting, with 5 confirmed cases in the next two counties, that we close for a while.

Maybe they could leave the kids home and let the teachers go to work and get caught up on all the damned paperwork that has been piling up…

Our kids had the STAR (or whatever) testing last week. One of the local high schools is shut down until the 6th because two people tested positive for swine flu.

My son has a month of tests starting Saturday – SAT, AP and IB tests. Hopefully this doesn't get affected.

One school has been closed here in the UK – a confirmed case in a 12yo just back from Mexico.

All kids given Tamiflu and went home again.

Hopefully we can hold the fort until a vaccine is available. Fingers crossed…

Uhh, can yall provide the list of cities with these outbreaks? We'll send… help. Promise. (starts entering nuclear release codes).

Seriously, hope yaw stay safe. Hopefully this thing is just a highly communicable version of the regular flu for most people-- feeling like crap for a few days, and then back to normal. Hopefully.

This is how it always starts in the movies….

@45th div

Yeah, But I say, we got nothing to worry about till they start reanimating!!!

Someone here at work this morning was saying since it was an emergancy that they didn't have to make the week up.

They have also canceled all sporting events until the 11th though they maybe back tracking some here. They weren't going go have regional track events (just taking top qualifers from the previous rounds to state) but parents are complaining abou t it. Just imagine if this was in the fall during football season, can you imagine the state religion of Texas being disrupted? You would hear the screams halfway around the world. :)

On the other hand if you want to avoid the crowds just go to a Rangers game. 10K Monday and 12K Tuesday, in a stadium that holds 40K.

They had a graphic showing those most likely to be affected by the swine flu pandemic:

Looks like Weslaco schools are shut down until next week because a student there has H1N1 (not confirmed swine) flu.

Did the USA have a Swine Flu scare in the 1970's? I seemed to remember this, anyone else?

vdal181202 May 2009 12:04 p.m. PST

I think there was a scare in 1976 or there abouts.

It's never to early to start panicking.

Yeah, there was a scare in '76.
