What are your opinions about Wheelock's Latin? wheelockslatin.com Anyone learned Latin using it or is there a better guide, other than the Idiot's Guide. I skimmed through a copy last week and liked the layout – no nonsense presentation – in comparison with other language learning books.

I played in an Ars Magica game that was run entirely in Latin and found the Wheelock book of the time (mid 90s) was quite helpful in improving my rusty high school Latin. Much easier to reference and didn't require you to already be a langauge expert to use.

I think they're pretty good. I used it and the workbook to help me with reading Italian paintings in grad school. They're very cheap as well. Don't fret about getting an older edition. Things haven't changed that much in Latin!

Thanks coryfromMissoula and nycjadie. I've got a 20% coupon from B&N and with the membership, I could purchase a hardcopy for around $20 USD for the durability.

I've got the soft back at the house. I matriculated using the Oxford Latin 3-book series. When a new perfesser came to SIU to teach beginning Latin, she chose Wheelock's. One of these days I'll refresh my already decrepit Latin skills using it.

its strange but after doing those quizzes, I realised one of I've worked out how to say 'Salve nauta'

its also fun to be able to sit in a class and lean over and write on my friends work book, Veni, Vedi, Dormivi and have him laugh

It was the standard textbook back when I was in school.

I would support an all-Latin day on TMP.
