Everyone, I usually don't like to talk about my business, but I'd like to now. My sister-in-law has been battling cancer off and on for the past six years. She's recently taken treatments that have sapped her strength and energy, and now she's been told that there's no more that can be done for her, and that she should be made as comfortable as possible. I don't buy that. And maybe I don't want to. Right now, I feel somewhat queasy, after eating dinner. What I want to say is that I've seen and heard many stories about how people fighting cancer were given the same chances, but then found alternative ways to beat the disease. Maybe some of you have stories like that. Maybe some of you have beaten cancer. I guess what I want to do is to talk to someone. OK. I'm ready. |

My wife was diagnosed 3 years ago with breast cancer and secondary lymph cancer. It has been a hard fight and to be absolutely honest I wasn't sure how I was going to cope with seeing her go through the treatments – but the human spirit is a remarkable thing. There have been whole weeks that went by and I lost complete track of time. Everything else gets put on hold to fight this (both in the sense of the cancer sufferer fighting it and the family/support trying to hold together some sort of normality
I went months without even visiting TMP
:) ). I have met people at the oncology unit that were told there was nothing else that could be done for them – but they refused to accept this and fought on. I have drawn a lot of strength from these people (I consider myself very lucky to have met them). I know of at least two people that have come through when the specialists expected them to not make it. There are no rules with cancer and your sister should never give up – it won't be easy but it does not necessarily have to be the end. I can't guide you with alternative treatments, others on here perhaps may be able to, but I can tell you there is hope. There is always hope. Hang in there. Your sister is in my prayers. Kev. |

Sometimes people make it, despite medical opinion. Hang tough, and best of luck. -Kle. |
