One of our local libraries has a free book rack for things they've taken out of circulation, but don't think will sell. I glanced at it yesterday, and found an original paperback edition of Star Trek by James Blish, the official novelization (or "short-story-ization") of the series, from 1967. Probably not worth all that much, but a fun find! |

About £1.50 GBP according to Abebooks – but the memories = priceless. Good find! |

Still a good read if you ask me. |

The animated series novelizations are also quite good, and in a couple cases are stretched from the episode into full novels. |

Is that the 1st book of a series of books about the TV series? I think there were a dozen or so books. They were pretty good. I have them all. I also have all the photo-novels. They were out before video. ;-D Thanks, John |

It's not even listed as the first book
but it is. Story titles: Charlie's Law (aired as "Charlie X," a fact not mentioned in the book) Dagger of the Mind The Unreal McCoy (aired as "The Man Trap" and the first episode, also not mentioned) Balance of Terror (the classic ship duel that introduced the Romulans) The Naked Time Miri The Conscience of the King There's an author's note indicating that all the stories were written from scripts. The noted is dated 1966; the copyright and printing date are 1967. As the show aired from 1966 to 1969, I believe this is a copy of the first book of any kind associated with the show, written and in the publication process before the first show even aired; otherwise the story titles and order would have been different. It's in surprisingly good shape for a 42 year old paper back. The white cover has some faint hanfling smudges and there are some minor corner wrinkles and spine wear, but the spine is intact and not "broken." I'm very pleased with it! |

I think I saw a copy of that at a thrift store in my area. |

These were re-released in the 70s, IIRC. The original series scripts were novelized and grouped in books called "Star Trek #" with the number from 1 to 11, I think, while the Animated series novelizations were titled "Star Trek Log #" going from 1 to 9. The Animated novelizations are supposedly what launched the writing career of Alan Dean Foster. He also did the novelization for Alien, and was (by all accounts) the ghost writer for the novelization of Star Wars. |
