Homemade tortilla chips are very easy to make and they taste way better than the stuff with seasoning and preservatives out of the bag from your grocery store.

Corn or flour, baked or fried? Do you make your own tortillas?

I'll cut up some corn tortillas and fry them for tortilla soup but that's about it. My daughter went to a kids' cooking camp last year where she learned to make meals from different countries. She learned to make baked tortilla chips – tortillas cut into triangles, coated in olive oil, sprinkled with salt and/or spices and baked. Pretty easy and delicious too.

I enjoy the corn. Your daughter's method sounds great. Baked, yes… Nice… I don't make them very often but fry them up when I do with a bit of salt and then dip into the guacamole which I put together as onion, cilantro, sour cream, hot sauce, lime juice, salt, avocado and a splash of olive oil. Great stuff!

Do you make your own tortillas?

I don't (I'm lazy evil grin), but my Mom did back when I was a kid. She would make flour tortillas from scratch, rolling the dough out with her wooden pin and board, and the smell of flour, shortening, and baking powder in the kitchen. Mmmm, the memories of homemade flour tortillas baking on the iron hotplate (which I still have), getting a hot one off the pile, loading it up with butter, and rolling it up and enjoying a steaming fresh flour tortilla. Wow!

Great memories! wink

Used to make flour tortillas way back when, but don't bother these days. Corn chips seem like more hassle than they are worth, considering a bag costs about 99 cents.

I don't, but I eat at a couple places that do.

That seems to be the way of the world these days. sacrificeing flavor and quality, for easy access. That's why fast food is so popular these days. It's also why food cost in these places run 22% instead of 32% 20 years ago.
