Out dog,(a dachshund) got paralised in the back legs last fall.
I had just moved out, but I go home everyday to walk her.
But this particular day I had other stuff to do, and wasn't plaing on going home, but my stepdad told me she had seemed sluggish and tired.
So I got worried and changed my planes and ran by the apartment, and when I got there she was total paralised in the hind legs, aswell as the tail.
I called my parents and they came home and took her to the vet, turned out she had sevral prolapses on the lower back.
They operated and she stayed at the vets for two weeks, 9 out of 10 times they get better after that time. But we got the 1 out of 10. She got a little better, she could wag her tail ect.
We have now spent half a year trainig her holding her back up while she walks on the front leg.
She has over these 6 months slowly very slowly gotten better, it started with that while we held up her back, the back legs started to move, she had no real control over it, but atleast something was going on back there, she then started to sit down when she peed.
Now she is alot better, she can almost walk, and we have toped holding up her back. She gets tired easly but it's nice to see her try to walk and sometimes making it.
The whole operation and the two weeks cost over $4,000 USD
But we had insurance so we only had to pay $1,200 USD
I'm sorry to hear about your dog iou, my evice is to hang on as long as you can, as long as the dog isn't in pain, let it live, even if it means a wheelchair.
