I have been asked (told) to lead our college's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) process. Those of you in US academia are aware of the periodic accreditation process we subject ourselves to. In the Southern Association they have added a QEP to the process. We are to pick one theme or topic, focused on student learning and implement it over the next five years. Meetings, planning, assessment, evaluation, "closing the loop" the whole nine yards of educational management gobbly goop.

I look forward to the next few years of people crossing the street when they see me coming, call screening my phonecalls and emails that for some reason people never get. Friends? bah, over-rated grin

In the words of the great philosopher of the wetern tradition, yippie ki yay MF!

At least people will know who you are.

To quote another great philospher

"Either Do, or Do Not. There is no leveraging stakehold buy-in to synergise the process re-engineering."

Last Hussar, you almost bingoed! In our last meeting stakeholder, buy-in and synergy were all mentioned. All you needed was grass roots and percolate!

Happily, the Buzzword Bingo around here is limited to when the Marketing Zombie from HQ comes by.

those that can, do.
those that cant, teach.
those that cant teach, teach computer concepts.
those that cant teach computer concepts, critique.
those that cant critique, manage.
those that cant manage tend to show up as my supervisor.
Ive had 30-35 different supervisors in the last 24 years =P

And for the full set, do I hear a 'disconnect' (as a noun, not a verb)?

I am a Lecturer in the UK and sometimes I go (or are sent) to Eastern Europe (Albania, Croatia, Poland etc.) to talk with lecturers for there. My opening remarks usually include the observation that when the Berlin wall came down we sent them capitalism which they adopted and in exchange they sent UK Universities overburdening and inefficient bureaucracy.

If I was king of all education I would require two standards for accreditation. First an audited financial report, second student placement in either the workforce or further higher ed. We are a community college so we are only concerned with the first two years of the BA program.
