Forgot which version of Adobe Reader I had, but after re-formatting my PC over the weekend, I'm in need of a new PDF reader. The present Adobe Reader, other than being an example of hyper-bloatware, in comparison with older versions, is causing issues with IE6 and WinXPSP2: closing windows, I always end up with the message "IE needs to shutdown," an annoyance especially when I'm downloading something. Microsoft lists the error under KB921470, but it's over my head – was expecting a patch.frown

Where could I find Adobe Readers 6.0-8.0? Is there another type of PDF reader that's better than Adobe's and won't cause any issues with WinXPSP2 and IE6?

Acrobat Reader 6 is a 9.94mb program: Email me with your email address and I'll try and send it as an attachment.

@the Gorb: Unfortunately, it's only for updates.frown When I click on Adobe 6.0 update, it says I need this version to run the update, but when I follow the download link, it directs me to Adobe 9.1.

@GarrisonMiniatures: I've sent you a PM.

I've found Foxit Reader and so far it's not as slow as Adobe, but I'll know for certain in a few days.

Full downloads are available for 7.1.0, 8.1.2 & 8.1.3.

When you get to the final download page, it does try to get you to download 9.1, you just have to click the radio button for the version you want.

I had a similar problem on my old work machine. I used Foxit instead -- it's smaller and faster.

Thanks for the tip on Foxit!

Is the bigger problem that you are still using IE6? Doesn't that have security hole issues resolved with IE7?
