So here it is 1:30AM EST and I just finished working today from yesterday. I need to get to bed because tomorrow comes along mighty early this morning today also.

I think I'm logging too many hours?

Ouch. I worked a few 48-hour shifts in the Air Force, and once I pulled a 110+ hour week working for the wildlands fire service, but I was a LOT younger then. I wouldn't want to do it today.

Sleep fast!

Yes, you are logging in a lot of hours. Is this situation temporary?

GoodBye04 Mar 2009 9:54 a.m. PST

Sadly no! The economy has taken a down turn and my bosses all three have decided that now is the time to really turn up the pressure. I've worked 3 of the last 4 weekends. I find I'm taking work home at least 3 nights a week. It has been brewing really for the last year. There are two of us and we are being asked to perform at a 24x7 level, typically 4-6 staff would be required to do the job. At 52 I don't want to shift companies again; however, I think it's going to be necessary. I'm grateful to have a job; I would like the expectations to be a tad more realistic.

Sounds like they're pushing you a bit too hard … if they're providing compensation, either salary or PTO, then it'll balance itself out in the long run. Otherwise, they're just abusing you and time to start looking around. I've done those hours in the past, I'm only a few years younger than you, and in the end, I didn't find it worth it.

Wait, wait. You have THREE bosses and only TWO people doing the actual work? Sounds like the morganizational pyramid is upside down. Are your bosses pulling the same kind of hours, or are they just exploiting you to avoid downsizing one of them?
