I've recently re-discovered Ben Goldacres "badscience.net" blog and web site – endless fun. He's a medical man so theres a medical/biology slant to his debunking, but not exclusively so.

Oh and if you like him, you might also like the Radio 4 series which looks at use and misuse of statistics. I think it is called More Or Less.

My favourite bad statistic was a TV documentary about a certain type of cancer. It proudly announced at one point that eating such-and-such a food "lowered the probability of death".

Not lowered the probability of death FROM THAT CANCER – but the whole probability of death.

If only I could remember what the food was, I could be immortal!
