My wife was laid off at the beginning of November. She brought in the majority of the household income, but it was going to be possible for us to live on my income – until my customers put their heads in the sand.

So, for the past four months, we've been living frugally, dodging the bullet with California, IOUs and unemployment while chasing down jobs that would either disappear, or have an extended lead time. Last week, things started happening. She had an interview with an aerospace company – and then they asked her to apply for a higher-level position. She had already applied to that job, but one has to get through the filters or be rejected before a human even takes a look. Anyways, she got a job offer on Tuesday for the same salary she'd been earning plus a signing bonus. The only downside is the long commute. Today, the hiring manager at a closer facility (same company) just called to set up an interview…

It figures.

Did she already accept the first offer? If so, it would be bad to revoke that acceptance and then attempt to work in another position at the same company. Maybe she can put in for a transfer.

She already accepted the first offer (bird in hand, and all that). And, she'll likely wind up supporting the 2nd location in the course of this job. It's also debatable whether the salary would be comparable.

But… she talked to these guys in December!

Better a Bird in the Hand…

Good Luck to you both.

Good news, a bit frustrating, but good.

Yep. Glad to hear that she's now employed… times are tough these days.
