Downtown LA, they've still got a small section of the La Brea tarpits open to view next to the Natural Art Museum, and still do digging out of site of the public.

They've found a huge number of fossils, including a complete Mastadon, quite a number of saber-tooth cats and various and sundry animals.

Saw it in the paper the other day, but can't find a link to the story.

Maybe one of you LA guys know the scoop.
