Suppose my PayPal account has a zero balance, but I have *two* backup funding sources on file with Ebay (a bank checking account with sufficient funds and a credit card with sufficient available credit). Does this scenario cause any delay when paying for an item after an auction? I prefer to maintain a large balance in my PayPal account so that I can pay the seller immediately after winning an auction. But it takes several days to transfer funds to PayPal from my bank checking account. I want to know what happens when I try to pay, and the PayPal balance is insufficient or zero, but I have these other backup funding sources. Thanks in advance! Oh, and if anyone reading this works for Ebay, I'm sorry to have to say this, but your online Help documentation sucks. |

If you have a credit card linked to your Paypal account then you are OK. If you only have a bank account then PayPal pays with an "echeck" which is pretty rubbish as it is unguaranteed funds to the seller will probably wait a week or more before sending goods. I discovered the above when my registered credit card expired. And updating this was not easy either. |

Use the credit card option. It is immediate. You can also dispute a credit card transaction when buying through the cc issuer. If selling, don't keep a balance in your Paypal account. In case of a dispute, Paypal will lock your funds. Regards, the Gorb |

I always use the credit card option, but in fact it always comes up as either an e-cheque or simply taking the funds directly from my account. I never try and keep funds in PayPal – why should they get the interest, etc. |

The credit card option does not display for me when paying after an auction. If it did, that would be my preference. I wonder -- does the credit card option display ONLY when the PayPal account AND the checking account both have a zero balance? I've never tried that. |

You can't choose credit card if the funds in your Paypal account will cover the transaction. Paypal has no idea what amount is in your checking account, Regards, the Gorb |

I have found that if my PayPal account is zero, then the funds come out of my bank account (aka checking account in the US). But unless I have a current credit card listed then the payment will be an eheck thingy not a real PayPal payment. The current credit card seems to make it into a real PayPal payment -- presumably because PayPal know they will get the money. |

Ok, I appreciate everyone's advice. It sounds like the seller will get paid just as quickly even when the PayPal account has a zero balance. That concerned me. Hopefully, I'll see the credit card option under this scenario, too. |

when your on the page that confirms the payment there is a tiny button in the middle that says payment options. if you click that you should be able to edit where the money comes from, but you can't do that if your carrying a balance in paypal. |

The seller does not get paid as quickly if it is passed as an Echeque. That has to clear as normal. |

Appreciate the additional info. I wouldn't use echecks because PayPal clearly indicates the payment will be delayed. (I wish everything on Ebay was that clear.) Mostly, I want to make sure the payment isn't delayed when using a credit card or my bank checking account. It sounds like I should be fine. Hope so! Thanks again. |
