Before Christmas, I browsed some board games at Toys R Us and was looking at Stratego. It looked very much to me like the old board game Admirals (which I loved and played many, many times with my friends) in board layout, ie, with the three lanes of advance separate by islands and in the numbering on the pieces.

Is it more or less the same game?

There is an online version of stratego called Sabotage which is at itsyourturn.com

It's not quite the same game as there are a few variations and the competition is quite fierce. "Open Rush" is probably the best. It's very easy to learn, but quite hard to master.

It's best value, is to learn how to deploy and manouver against an opposeing army rather than blameing bad dice rolls for your loss. You can get bad dice rolls and still win the game if you know what you are doing.

In sabotage, there are no dice rolls. And that forces you to make some very tough decisions against a largely unseen force, where sometimes gut instinct plays a major role.
