Forecast is icy roads here in the Pacific NW. Today it was bad enough driving in. Overpasses were frozen solid. Cars sliding all over the place. Oh well – they might even close the office anyway. I think I'll start painting some Old Glory WotR cannon I have primed. grin

They cancelled school as of 9 PM last night.
Still not a drop of freesing rain, nor snowflake has hit the ground…

We're supposed to hit 80 today (hottest day on record for December) but then again they forcast possible snow by Sunday/Monday.

We are supposed to be in the 70s today in Fort Worth. This after Tuesday when it was 27 when I got to work about 7:30 and up to 28 by the time I went home. Isn't Texas weather fun. Oh and it will be back to the 30s for Sunday. Good time to curl up and stay inside.

I'm constantly amazed at people who say they don't like science fiction yet they pay attention to weather forecasts!

Supposed to get 7 inches of snow today. Fortunately, I don't need to drive anywhere! grin

Funny, they closed schools in Las Vegas yesterday…due to snow…

We fianlly got some snow up here in the foothills of the Sierra. Going snowboarding asap tomorrow! We are leaving at about 5am… First tracks and all that… wink

Heh… I can't remember the last time anyting officially closed for snow up here. And the schools don't *ever* close for temperature, although at -40 or colder, attendance is no longer mandatory.

Then again, we don't have ice storms in this part of Alaska, either.

My first experience with black ice was in the Seattle area, I don't blame you a bit.

Not had icy roads yet, but IO couldn't get out of my apartment block carpark a couple of weeks ago, because it rained all night, then froze glass-smooth; reversed out of my space, and instead of driving up the slope to the road, slid down to the bottom, instead. :(

Whimps!!!!

I could not believe Seattle closed their schools yesterday for "not snow".

Many businesses sent folks home for "not snow".

Seattle proper got maybe an inch but more like 1/2 inch. You guys are killing me. I spent a fair amount of breakfast helping folks negotiate the ice (regular tires). Three of these unfortunate souls had 4WD!! Unfortunately they didn't know what 4WD stands for and didn't know how to engage the 4WD in their own SUV's!!!! Why someone would buy a 4WD vehicle and remain ignorant of its capabilities is beyond me. But I kid you not. Three of Seattle's finest citizens did just this.

When I got home I had 14" piled up in my driveway (I was really happy about this as I was told some of my neighbors had 30" or even 40". Took about 45 min to do the 100 yard drive with my not so good snow blower & a grain shovel.

All you have to do is buy all weather radial tires for your front wheel drive cars and have them siped. I've been doing this since the 80's and the only time I got stuck was when the snow was deeper than the front of my car.

I drove all over Seattle earlier today and got back to Spokane (300 miles of intermittent snow pack and ice) by 5 p.m. Not a lick of trouble. The roads were fine.

Around 8" of snow in a couple of hours – good news was that school got out early.

Quid- you think they bought them because they were 4WD? They bought them because of 'fashion'. Personally, anyone who buys a 4wd when all they do is drop kids off at school and go shopping needs a slap.
