Had this done friday, and had a polp removed along with some other biopsied bits. Boy you have not lived until you have drank 4 liters of "sea water" the night before. I made a ton of jello, bought cans of chicken broth, 7-Up, etc. Ended up hardly eating anything at all. They always say you shouldnt hurt after this but I feel like I've been worked over in the middle. Was lucky, this second one was a breeze, had a great Doc, drip anesthetic, no screaming thur this one. My girlfriend was asking what I wanted to eat while she drove me home from the hospital-Taco Bell
.well they said not to make any important decisions after the anesthetic

Done it twice, since my younger Bro died of colon cancer. The prep work sucks, as does feeling sedated for a day or two. Hope it all turns out good. |

Thanks. My Dad had problems so I got the 1st one pretty early, hey why not. I think they want people to have one at age 50, I think that is way late in life. 35-40 would make better sense, take in family history, smoking history, etc. With the loss of your brother, how often do they have you get it done? |

I've had a couple, and am due for another one. I much prefer when they give you the pill as prep; I really dislike drinking the gallon or so of Go Lightly (I think that's really the name!). Never had any after-effects other than gas. |

Saw a new thing on Fox News this morning. You swallow a "pill" the size of a penicillin capsule and it shows a picture of your insides on a TV. No prep, just a couple of hours watching your very own "Fantastic Voyage" but w/o Raquel Welch. Fortunately the pills are only good for one use. |

Had it done twice. Not looking forward to a third one, but will do it when the doc recommends it. Hope the news is good, iouliared. |

I suspect that my day will come in the not so distant future. But, you'll never look at a Coors Light commercial the same way again after learning that the rigid sigmoidiscope is popularly called "the silver bullet." Wyatt |

My doctor called it the Silver Rocket Ride. Not pleasant, but not the worst thing I've had to endure. Then again, I've had to endure some truly awful things. I've had the standard, flexible-jobby exam twice. One of those involved the doc displaying all the finesse of a plumber snaking out a clogged drain. Less than comfortable experience, let me tell you. On the plus side, he irritated my colon enough that I was farting in his face for most of the exam, so it wasn't a total loss. I also had the biopsies done, so trust me iouliared, I know what you feel like. I was 19 at the time and on the way home my Mom asked me how I felt. The only honest and non-expletive answer was "Like someone snipped out parts of my colon wall." That ain't no joke either, kids. |

By the way, what's with the sedation? I didn't get sedation! I got a tablespoon of lube and a nurse to hold my hand. That's it. Poor enfant, always getting the short end of the endoscope. Hope you're feeling better iouliared! |

Two ways of sedation, one with a valium type drip and the other with a IV drip that puts you to sleep for 5 min, which is the best, although I didnt sleep I felt no pain unlike the 1st type I had 5 years ago. I heard in Europe they dont give ya anything! How do they expect people to be compliant if they inflate them like a Macy's day parade float without the juice? I think I'll excuse myself from sit ups again today

. Had mine done last year and will get it done in another 2 down the road. |

Other than the 'Go Lightly' and deciding next time I'm just going to sleep sitting on the toilet to save myself the trouble of walking back and forth to it all night, it was a breeze. Joy juice just before the start and I woke up in the recovery room. The parts they snipped out didn't hurt. Knock on wood. |

Going for my first Colonoscopy this week. Unfortunatly i'm going because i'm getting several symtoms of IBS. Bloody mucusy stools and constant lower left abdominal pains. I'm just past 40 so i'm hoping it's nothing too serious especially after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a few months ago. My wife also had a Colonoscopy a couple of years ago that lead to her having all her small intestines removed. Here in the UK there has been talk about colon screening for everyone who's 40+. Apparently it could save 1000 lives a year. |

My wife had one a couple of years ago. Polyp removed, but otherwise, okay. Took a taxi to and from the hospital, Prep work was a challenge but got through it. Chicken broth and jello, along w/ the gallon of sea water. Next one in about a few more years. My turn'll be coming before long. |

My wife and I had them 3 years ago. She's good for a long time, I'm in again in November for another one. My last one was the day before Thanksgiving. The actual camera up my ass part was done while I was unconcious. The prep work in the days before it are just plain uncomfortable. Remember baby wipes and lots of vaseline, otherwise your bottom will look it's been sunburned. |

I've had them 3 times and was sedated lightly everytime although I only remember details of the first one and they didnt do them very well back then. The worst thing of all was for my first one I had to cleanse by drinking 5 2 litre bottles of soap water without stopping. It was worse torture than any pain could be. If they did this at Guantanamo they would be shot. The cleansing is still not fun but damn certainly a lot easier. My biggest problem is that my stomach is in shock for a week from the cleansing. BTW I am over due for one this year. Its fairly routine now, I'm more afraid of losing 2 days I could have been doing something better than the actual process. If you had one done 15 years ago things have changed alot for the better. At least where I live. |

I'll be having my second one tomorrow. Today I'm doing the liquid diet. When I had my first one five years ago, I thought the worst part was the prep. I really don't remember the actual procedure at all. |
