There are lots of us on the Bethsoft forums with install issues. The claim is that they are associated with Securom and copy software on your box. At least you will be able to avoid the textures.bsa disk read issue if you get a digital download from Steam. There are apparently lots of CTD issues once you get up and running too. There are those who can play without issue. I run a pretty tight gaming rig here at the house. I remember a day when I didn't have to spend 4 hours figuring out why a game wouldn't run. Deadspace burned me too. Farcry 2 however
runs like a dream. I've been computing since I got my first 8088 at 10 or so. There are so many untested apps being pushed out onto the market that I think I am done. I've got two copies of Left 4 Dead on pre-order. After that
I think I am becoming a console gamer. Not that they don't have issues
.they just have less :) |

Actually
after extensive research
battles with the Securom rootkit it installs on your machine
and instability issues I don't suggest getting the game at all. Its sad really. I am a diehard Fallout fan. Even IF you can get the game installed, crashes are fairly constant. |

Is Securom the one where they 'license' the game to you and preclude any right of ownership? Some of the draconian DRM measures being taken today are pushing me to the console as well, except for some niche wargaming titles. Thanks for the heads up! |

The more PC players expand out into console gaming, the better it is for both sides. We just need someone to figure out a good way to do RTS on a console
(I keep looking at the USB ports on the front of my 360, wondering why I can't put a mouse and keyboard in them. Grr.) |

How exactly is that good? Developement of graphic cards for computers is mainly driven by demands from PC games. Unless you're into 3D graphics or photo/video editing, there is absolutely no reason even to consider putting in today's CPU:s in a home computer. So when it comes to technical inovation, consoles will never be able to come even close to PC:s. As for yet antoher bunch of idiots deciding to destroy gaming experience for PC users, first and foremost it's poor QA. Not that it's all that much better on the console side of the fence – from what I know, GTA4 is more or less unplayable for some people at later levels, and that's both on Xbox and Playstation. As for Steam, stay away from it if you're a European. Speaking from my own experience, I can say that those bastards obviously operate under impression that US is IT when it comes to customer service. Thanks for the warning to the original poster – I would have probably gotten this game this week. Now I will wait until they fix the problems (or pick it out of the discount bin in 12 months :-). |

I preorderd the game (PC-DVDversion) and it installed just fine and is running just fine, had one random crash but that was after HOURS of playing
. though as with anything to do with PC games, YMMV. great game. |

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. I installed Fallout 3 via Steam and have experienced only minor issues. For me crashes aren't uncommon but only seem to occur after several hours of play. To be honest I expect this from most PC games anymore. Give it several weeks for the first patch to be released and hopefully that will solve some of the major problems. Overall I have really enjoyed the game. |
