I've done a little research concerning Lasik corrective surgery (I'm REEEEAAAALLLY nearsighted). Turns out I'm not a candidate due to the extreme myopia. Darn. The only option for corrective surgery in lens implants. It's considered cosmetic and insurance won't cover. It's also very expensive, so I can't pay out of pocket. Darn again. Now the bad news: I'm developing a cataract in my left eye (jeebus I'm only 40!) and in a few years I'll need to have it removed. Now the good news: What do they replace the removed cataract with? Lens implants! Now medically necessary and covered by most plans. Yippee. |

My father in-law just had cataract surgery performed n one of his eyes. He went for an 80% vision deficiency in that eye to being able to read the bottom line on the eye chart! |

I've got to get my left lens replaced soon – cataracts, and I'm 36. A word of warning! The process of getting that surgery done involves a lot more people than might be obvious; the office where you schedule it, the place where the surgery is done, the MD that does the surgery, the OD that evaluates you, so on and so forth
and most importantly, not all of these might be covered by your insurance. Make sure that you find out the details of what's covered and what's not, for every step of the way. |
