In the prison where I work standard clothing for the guests is towling jogging bottoms and sweatshirt with no pockets in either, so the prisoners have a habit of shoving their hands inside the clothing.

There is a sign up:
"No spitting or hands down trousers."

Why would they spit down their trousers?

There's a sign over the sink in our break room at work that says, "Do not wash face or spit in the sink." Why would someone wash their spit?

Why would they spit down their trousers?

I wouldn't normally answer this question, but you asked.

Lubrication.

Which bit of Aylesbury? (I'm currently in the Lifer office in E wing)

Sorry LH, I didn't mean Aylesbury jail. She worked at the BT offices in the town, and rented a house in Bierton.

Being a motorcyclist, I remember some darn fine roads around those parts. Some of them didn't even have Gatsos on them… grin
