William F. Buckley was a properly educated man, and was not ashamed to show it. Although my political views have matured from when I first admired him, my respect for both his mind and his pen remain. There's a reason the ancients (by which I mean our grandparents) learned logic and rhetoric. Effective communications are a cornerstone of human interaction. To attempt to communicate without basic training in the fundamentals makes as much sense as a plumber going out on a call without any tools. Recent political interviews and debates bear depressing witness to that truism. Allen |
