So has anyone played it yet?

For a game under development for so long, it sure sounds like it has alot of flaws and the inserted Linear sequences where the main character takes a singluar route to clear the odd building or two sounds very redundant, but I will admit I am going on second hand information, it would be good to hear some more opinions here.

Where they stick to the gameplay style of the original games, it is outstanding. The same system is used, but improved upon, with LMG and Bazooka sections added to your sunits, and in some of the later parts you get three sections to command instead of two, as in the old games.

But then they went and ruined it by sticking in the first-person shooter parts, and the bit where you drive a tank. They are a distraction, and you find yourself wishing you could get back to the parts where you are commanding a squad. It is so frustrating because it ruins what would otherwise be the best one of the series.

I don't know if they were pandering to the First Person Shooter crowd or what, but they really compromised the tactical command thing, which is the heart and soul of the game. I suspect it will please no one, because as a first person shooter, the game isn't all that impressive.

Also it was much better the way tanks were just another unit for you to command in the old games. Replacing them with parts where you drive a tank around on its own is a stupid idea. Again, another distraction from the main game.

Also there are over-long cut-scenes about how terrible war is, with the characters endlessly bickering amongst themselves. These cannot be skipped on the PS3 version, and they go on, and on, and on, and on.

All in all, I would say a great game totally spoiled by them messing with it, and too often taking you away from what made this series great in the first place. Presumably they did it to attract people who didn't like the original games. I would have thought it better to appeal to the folks who did like them, myself. But what do I know? Smells to me like focus groups may have spoiled it, or executives who don't actually play games.

But the squad combat sections are really, really good fun. I can't really decide to recommend the game or not. I don't know if it's worth putting up with all the annoying Bleeped text for the good bits. I'm still a bit angry about it. I need to wait until I've calmed down and have a better perspective.

So I can give it a pass and wait for Call of Duty: World at War?

I like the game, eventho the tank maps are just silly.

there are some stuff that arn't so good, but it's still alot more realistic then any Call of duty game.

the sounds and weapons are great, tho I don't like the M1928 thomspon, I like the M1A1 better.

it is also silly that you can destory wooden fences, but wooden sheds are not only bullet proof, but impervius to tanks rounds or bazooka rounds

still a good game, and much better then those aracde shooters like medal of honor and cod

I gave in and bought it and agree with all the comments made on the second post. Also the running in the burning building section, which is where I got to and got bored and will come back to it at some point, feels like some stupid first person super mario abortion which if I wanted, I would buy in the first place.

I feel we have yet to see the ultimate, historically and terrain accurate World War II game which is somewhere between Command and Conquer and this, hopefully we will see it in my life time.
