From Flower to Sapling?

Can a plastic flower become a wargaming shrub? Or maybe a small tree?

I want to say a big non-political 很 好 to China's astronauts for their successful first space-walk and safe return afterwards.

It is always good to see human beings journey into space and return safely.

I wouldn't mind a bit if China's new space program prompted another space race.

Yes, well done the taikonauts!

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the West is paying attention.

Given China's growing militarism, I don't see this event as an unalloyed "good thing."

Still, it has near-future scenario possibilities…

Good to see them back on Earth safe and sound.

I do wish this would light a fire under the US space program . . .

Hear, hear! Anyone building their own spaceship and performing a spacewalk is commendable.

On a related note, SpaceX's Falcon 1 rocked finally had a successful launch, delivering the first payload in history to be launched with NO government sponsored technology.

That is, the whole launch vehicle was designed from the ground up with private funding – many others use surplus soviet rocket engines or some other shortcuts. They've had a few failures to this point (this was their 4th launch), but hopefully this will usher in a new era of more affordable space access.

Now that's a development I can wholeheartedly applaud!

P.S.: Nothing against the taikonauts in my earlier post; I'm just very wary of the Chinese government. And the Olympics didn't alleviate that concern one bit.

No worries Parzival, I'm sure everyone feels the same way.

Congrats to the Shenzhou-7 Taikonauts on a successful mission and return to Earth. You can bet that a future 'Star Trek' will incorporate be a "Shuttlecraft Zhai" or a "Zhai Station", named in honor of Zhai Zhigang, the first spacewalking Chinese explorer.

Yep, it's awesome, congratulations Shenzhou 7 crew!

I'm all for any and all space exploration.

Lets face it- we have to find a way off this rock before the next K-Boundary event.
