An American collector of Matchbox cars is putting them up for auction with the collection valued at $1,000,000 USD.

Based on the photos they're showing, I think some of their values are off. That taxi in the first picture is not worth $5K as that is the "normal" version. The horse-drawn milk cart might be worth what they say, as its one of the original Matchbox vehicles, but the Lincoln Continental in the last picture is also the "normal" combination of paint and plastic colors. However, the Lotus Racer in the third picture is the same one that I got $152 USD for when I sold it on e-bay…

The Taxi, Lotus and Lincoln are from 1968. I don't know about the bottle float. As important as the condition of the car is, having the original box in perfect condition is also vital.

Funny, had that milk float as a kid. Must have been around '56, an uncle brought it from London, they weren't on the Dutch market yet.

Makes me wish I kept my Matchbox cars from when I was a kid, all boxed and nice. But then I would not have had all that fun with them. Guess I should have gotten 2 of each back then. No wait I would have played with both of them.

I love looking at collections of detritus like that. Maybe that's why I collect miniatures.

Ohhh, the pain and the anguish…I had three brothers and we all had piles of matchbox cars, storage cases, matchbox city playsets, 12" GI Joe and piles of GI Joe equipment and vehicles, Hot Wheels & Sizzler cars, sets and tracks, Marx Playsets and soldiers, etc. all dating back to the early 1960's. Once we grew up my folks sold this stuff at yard sales for 25 cents each. I've seen Ben Hur sets on Ebay for hundres of dollars. The same with my Johnny Seven OMA and Marx Tommy Gun. Had I known then what I know now I'd be rich.
I'd probably also be the only 48 year old running around my neighborhood playing Army with all the little kids. Padded room here I come…
