I do HV/AC and just returned from the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition house in Toledo Ohio. It was amazing to see how quickly a home can be put up and finished when talented people work together. We had a tribute to the victims of 911. I got to meet Paul from the show and maybe even end up on T.V
.or the cutting room floor. Its funny to see the show and then see it live. Very different live. Overall a great experience. Tons of volunteers and donated food / water and even a massage! Now I have to wait to see when it airs. :) |

How much prep work do they actually have to do before the "7 days?" I suspect that them showing up at the doorstep is either not on day 1, or the reactions are staged just because of logistical requirements. Extreme Makeover is one of the few TV shows I enjoy and the only "reality" show that I consider worth the bandwidth because it isn't based on peoples' baser instincts, humiliation or the like and it actually does good. How do they make sure the home is built to local building code? With so much activity happening simultanously, inspectors must have a nightmare. |

I had a friend do a mural for an Extreme Makeover house here in Charlotte a few weeks ago. He said all the real work went on at night. Daytime was for the stars and the camera stuff. And as to inspectors-- if you pay them enough money they show up and do their jobs when you ask them to. I just built a garage with a game room on the second floor so I have a LOT of experience with the Inspection Dance. |

Is it true that they pay for a little mini get-away for the neighbors as well? Could you imagine a house being demolished and rebuilt right next to you in a span of 168 straight hours? |

Wyatt the Odd No they actually just show up and give them one day to get out before the smash the house. CLDISME I am not sure but our inspector showed up and looked everything over. nazrat Yes you are right. awalesII Yes they sent about six neighbors to hotels. |

WTG Mr Wigglesworth. I'm with Wyatt in that it's one of the few reality TV shows I will watch. Usually over exuberant TV presenters annoy me. It's not the Australian way. But with these guys I an willing to put up with it. With so much meanness and violence, a la cheaters or Jerry Springer, its so refreshing to see people doing something kind and compassionate. |

The company I used to work for did one of these homes a couple years ago. We had preliminary plans a good 6 weeks before the start. They do literally show up at the house on day one but the planning starts a few weeks prior. Regardless of having plans they do make a myriad of changes during the course of construction. |
