Hi all!

Taking the wife on vacation to Lake Louise at the end of the month. We're flying into Calgary then driving over to LL. Before leaving Calgary, I want to stop off at a supermarket to pick up some 'staples' before hitting the trails.

Any good stores in the area? Looking for something like a Kroger/Vans/Food Lion/A&P – big general supermarket with groceries and what not. Even Wal Mart would do if they had groceries.

Thanks!

Ray

The CO-OP store, the Great Canadian Supermarket, Loblaws, IGA.

You should find that they are all over the place. Easiest to get to from the airport will be to head north on Barlow Trail, then turn west on Country Hills Blvd. Stay on Country Hills for about 3 – 4 km, and you'll find yourself in a commercial/retail area with several to choose from.

Once you are finished shopping, you can follow Country Hills Blvd to 14 St. Take 14 St south to John Laurie Blvd, then west on John Laurie to Shaganappi Tr. South on Shaganappi to 16th Ave, and then west on 16th until it becomes the TransCanada Hwy heading west to Banff and Lake Louise.

As Jakar mentioned, names to look for are Great Canadian Superstore and Calgary Co-op. You can also keep an eye out for Safeway, and IGA is now known as Sobeys.

Hope that helps.

Many thanks to both of you!

Ask at the rental car place, they should be able to give you good advice (and a map!).

Safeway! I've been exiled in Quebec far too long! As for IGA/Sobeys, it's just like all the supermarket takeovers down East with Provigo and Maxi and Loblaws. Oh, and IGA is actually back here, after a long absence.
