Well for the third time in three years Southeast Texas will host yet another tropical system. The latest uninvited and unwanted guest is Edouard. Now, in addition to having to having to worry about these monstrosities, I have to look in a English-Spanish dictionary to spell their confounded names right! This is not what I had in mind when when the Weather Service names storms. Even people at the Weather Channel are calling it Edward! Oh well we're hunkered down and will ride it out as there has been no call for an evacuation. Nvertheless its gonna a wet and miserable next few days. Salut y'all Bruce the Texas Grognard |

Hopefully Edouard (sounds French) will treat you the way Dolly treated the Weavers – lots of rain, no damage at all. |

Anything under a Cat 3 is just a big rainstorm – only of real concern to people were imprudent in their choice of land. -Kle. |

Well I'm glad to report that Tropical Storm "Ed" was just a big squall! Although I was worried we might lose some siding, thankfully we had no damage. So we my family has dodged yet another nature's bullets. Anything under a Cat 3 is just a big rainstorm – only of real concern to people were imprudent in their choice of land. Klebert Southeast Texas was hit by Rita back in 2005 and was absolutely clobbered as far as 150 miles inland and it was a Cat 2! I'd never seen so many downed, broken trees and powerlines in my whole life as I did on the drive home five days after the storm. Their was a house roof sitting in the middle of my street five houses down and it was from a house two blocks over! Just because a Hurricane is a certain Category doesn't necessarily mean its just a little squall. However by some true miracle my house suffered little damage. My family was truly blessed then and was again this time around. Bruce the Texas Grognard |

Glad everyone was safe, as Edouard didn't become anything more than a rain producer. Unfortunately, it looks as though the heart of North Texas might be high and dry this go around. At best, at least tomorrow we won't hit our eleventh consecutive 100.F degree day. |

Just because a Hurricane is a certain Category doesn't necessarily mean its just a little squall. All those things, and worse could have happened in a big rainstorm. Been through too many tropical storms and weak hurricanes to care. All the bad things that happen in these events are due to either unwise construction practices or unwise siting practices. It's easy enough to learn the flood characteristics of an area, and it's easy enough to tell if a house was built properly. Sure, electricity goes out during these things, but if that's a real problem, generators are available for sale. AFAICT, it all just comes down to the Scout Motto. -Kle. |
