Here is an interesting article from Scientific America investigating if someone could physically transform himself into a superhero like the Batman. link |

I take it back, actually, that's not a bad article. |

Very interesting. I particularly noted the comment that a fight is not likely to involve even four or five attackers against one opponent, as they'd tend to get in each other's way. If that's correct, that's an element I don't recall being incorporated into a tabletop game; reduced effectiveness of attacks due to unintended mutual interference. Hmmm
wouldn't be hard to do, though. Simply set a progression and a max, say above 2 on 1, all attackers suffer a -1 penalty for each additional attacker, maxing at 6 allowable attackers (so cumulative penalty for all is -3). They have the advantage of multiple chances to hit their victim, but their ability to hit (effectively) is reduced. Above 4 attackers, might even included a possibility that a miss actually hits one of their allies
See how skillfully I turned this geek discussion even geekier? |

But in the movies, don't the bad guys attack one at a time? Knock one guy away, the other guy attacks, dispose of him, the next guy attacks

That's how it works in reality too, only faster. "Target rich environment", is how the single fighter must view it. In the Conan novels, again and again Conan goes on the attack when heavily out-numbered, and by being in the midst of enemies who are hampered by their own numbers he can slay with almost every stroke. (I did say "reality" did I not?) Kill Bill, same thing, Kiddo can't miss because enemies are all around: but they can't strike more than one at a time or else they will hit each other. (I did say "reality" right?) Unbreakable (Shyamalan's film) explores a force of nature who comes to the realization that HE is a super hero. It is a very cool story on the possiblity of such exceedingly rare individuals. Iron Man, same thing. "The force" (not Lucas's) explains everything: that strange energy surrounds and permeates not only the armor but the body of the hero, such that he does not even feel the abrupt and enormous changes in momentum as he changes direction midflight. Find out what that energy is and how it works, and YOU TOO can become Iron Man. |

How sad, he had to research all those comic books to write a book. Man, I wish I'd had it that easy in academia, I'd still be there if I had. |

he shares a flat with Ironman and Doctor Plattypus, I saw them in the queue for a kebab the other week in Camden. Doctor Plattypus has yet to reach the same level of fame as his two flatmates. |
