I'd like to see Chris Hansen try to get a response from this guy:

Well, there's 15 years of his life shot to hell. Over over-priced coffee?

And he probably didn't even get doughnuts while on his freebie binge. What a waste! evil grin

In all seriousness, I respect the men and women of our police forces, but this guy just took advantage of the situation. Law enforcement doesn't need his help.

Perhaps he will become that which he fought against – a criminal over this whole affair.

"Gee Officer Garvin, I've bad news for you.
You're not only fired, no coffee for you."

When I worked a mom and pop, I gave free coffee or drinks to any cops who stopped by when I worked the night shift….cheap insurance……….shrug. I never got robbed.

I must admit, I'm not seeing the causality there. Unless you were afraid the rozzers would rob you if you didn't bribe them with beverages. grin

Most establishments make the offer, as kyoteblue suggests.
This guy came in six times a shift demanding.

As far as the causality, it's more psycological. The cop recognizes that the business appreciates his efforts and responds in kind when trouble brews.

He's not going to be so concerned if the business owner cops an attitude or indicates some contempt or even ambivalence.

Losing your job over Starbucks insipid dishwater is just plain sad.

Six times a night is a bit much. But honestly, I wouldn't mind it if I were the business owner. Having a cop stop by every couple hours would be worth the fifty cents it costs them for the five cups of coffee. Hell, I'd have a special chair for him with his own cup. My brother, who is a cop, used to get free coffee from Dunkin Donuts until the firemen complained…cry babies:)
