There is some talk about airlines charging people by the pound for themselves and their luggage.

Could such an idea catch on? As in, New York to LA for $1.25 USD a pound? $3 USD a pound business class and $7 USD for first class?

Would make plastic minis more attractive!

Hmnn, that would cut the price of the average ticket in half for me, and drop it 30% for my husband. I'm for it!

I would welcome that, so long as it might bring some transparency to airline ticket costs.

But But its discrimination!!!! its like charging you more because you are taller!

The above quote was heard on a news program. News Flash being tall does not necessarily add more to the fuel cost as hauling extra blubber around does.

But its discrimination

Unless the pricing affected a protected class (which this would not) there isn't discrimination.

Heh. Such a trusting soul.

I expect that they will charge thin people the current rate, and fat people more. Nobody will get a discount.

Then they will use any weight left over (just like always) for more cargo. You guys know they make a lot of their money from cargo, right?

I seriously doubt that the weight of passengers is a major factor in fuel usage of jetliners.

Hmm, so if I have to pay a lot more for my ticket than Jana, I get a seat proportional to my size, right?

Charging for body mass would probably get travelers watch their weight for sure. But I believe the anti-discrimination groups will never allow this to happen.

Low end BMI with way too much height myself. Still expensive.
