Ok this is cross posting a little as its a board wargame.

Any chance of some opinions on this, both as a game and as a representation of the period from anyone who might have tried it.

Im looking to spark some interest in Galleys with the local wargames club, but noone has models and I thought this might be a reasonable intro (C&C:A has gone down well with both boardgamers and wargamers at the club if that helps).

Any comments welcomed
Tim

I think it is a very good boardgame (and easily adapted to miniatures). It plays quickly and is not overly complex. Is it the ultimate simulation of galley warfare, no, but I'm not really looking for that. However, if you want to be able to game Salamis in a reasonable timeframe it works fine.

As an aside, WG's stepchild is Flying Colours for age of sail and it is an excellent game as well.

I echo Hastati's comments…I only wish I had time to play it (more often), but working for KPG/TVAG…I don't.

I have the game, but have not had the time to really try it yet.

You can read here about what other board-gamers think of it:

I like it…..you could easily play it with a sea-coloured hex-mat and miniatures too if you really wanted to. I know several manufacturers of ancient naval ships are out there; personally I like Langton Miniatures.

Then there are the card galleys from Eric Hotz if you really want to blow them away – seriously, don't scoff at the fact they are card until you have checked out this site:

I have the Roman and Carthaginian sets and they are REALLY nice. Haven't tried War Galley with them although I own all the GBoH games but I think it would be as impressive as hell.

Dyehard,

may I ask a favour from you? I just recently bought a copy of the game from a 2nd hand store. Fool that I am, I never checked the contents. Turns out it was missing the 'Player's Aid' chart(s). Being a 2nd hand store they were not about to take the game back even with proof of purchase. By chance could you or would you be willing to email me a copy of the chart(s) in question????

Thanks

Ray
