a bit of a rant or just plain´ bitching.

I´´m building a new house and it was supposed to be finished this coming monday. We were there this saturday and everything looked fine. This tuesday we were there to leave some stuff and noticed that the wood floor hade been ripped out. It turned out that the plumber had goofed and created a huge leak. Waterdamage and the floor had to go and now all the water has to be dried out. The plumbers insurance covers everything and the building firm is very helpful so actually no harm done but it will delay when we can move in with about three weeks. Really annoying! Me and my girl had really looked forward to move in and now we must wait a few more weeks. Yes a small problem but still, a bit annoying, I feel like kid cheated on the candy ha ha

You should see the game room I´m planning! It will be great!

Don't feel bad you should feel great that it's being taken care of w/o any trouble! Just think of the horror stories out there about contractors and consider yourself lucky. Other than that, it can be frustrating but remember "Always look on the bright side of life la la la la la la la la." I don't know why but I seem to be Quoting Monty Python a lot today

Easy solution:
take a pic and put it in the net and post the link here.

For example imageshack.us is free and doesn't even require logging in.

Nah, we'll all come round his house for a game and some beers when it's ready. Photos never do it justice. grin

When it is done I will post pictures! And if you travel to Sweden I will show you the room and offer beer ; )

When it comes to the house I do consider myself very lucky. the main contractor has been very very good and honest. For example he estimated the cost of some of the construction to 3000 USD. We accepted this and signed a contract for that part. When we got the bill it was for around 1800 USD. The contractor said that the work was easier than he had anticipated and didn´t require as much material as he had originally thought. He could easily have scammed us for 1200 USD but did not.

If you need a building contractor in Sweden I can recommend him.

Hope this problem is the last hitch. But it's good that they found the mistake now, instead of a couple of months from now…

WarWizard10 Apr 2008 5:09 a.m. PST

So when are you inviting us over then?

Lentulus10 Apr 2008 5:41 a.m. PST

As predictable as house construction has become, time and chance… I've been in the same situation.

Take a good look at your contract. Mine had some late penalties -- not a whole lot, but heck.

And what is it with plumbers? The one who did my house was a bungler -- the contractor got someone else to do the waranty repairs.

OK – so what period are we playing when we all come over to soledad's new place?

nycjadie10 Apr 2008 6:14 a.m. PST

I'd count yourself lucky, really.

Soledad,
Not to rain on your parade, but consider checking with your insurer. Sometimes water damage claims makes a house more difficult to insure, and more difficult to sell. I think it is because of mold claims.

Additionally, all insurers share claims information through the Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange (CLUE) database.

The contractor sure sounds like a rare breed: honest & able!

With all the horror stories I've heard about the local construction work I'd be terrified to start any project.

Soledad, since you're only a ferry ride away you'd better better make the room ready and stock some beer -even sissy folköl will do… :)

I'd love to come over and visit! Can I fix my World Famous "Burrtios El Flautoso Del Grande?" and a side order of Refried beans? If so, I get first dibs on the bathroom!!!!

Count me in, I am game. I will bring the weird war II and napi minis, with a side of prepainted plastics. It will be a grand time.

Captain Apathy11 Apr 2008 9:23 a.m. PST

But seriously, like mweaver said, it is much better that they found it now before you had moved all your stuff in. Especially if you are like most gamers and have a TON of paper products (i.e. rules, board games, etc).

Murphy

getting the proper burrito supplies into Sweden may be a problem, the bigger problem is that last I checked you were on the Swede watch list as a bioterrorist :-)
