I was just watching "The Universe: The Constellations" on the History Channel tonight . . .

Look at Amy Mainzer at 2:00 minutes into this video:

My first thought was, "that's Angelina Jolie's long lost sister!"

Later, at 4:47 minutes, it became obvious that the similarities were remote.

What's the saying? "Believe 25% of what you hear, 50% of what you read, and only 75% of what you see"?

Dr. Mainzer is welcome to jet propel my laboratory anytime.

Hey, attractive scientists are not so rare; That is why I liked Debra Messing as the molecular anthropologist in the series "Prey". She came off as both competent in her field, gutsy in a fight, and sexy as well.

Didn't Ebert write that in movies, every top scientist in their field is a sexy 22-year old female ?

Hmm, good show I have to watch more.

Angelina Jolie's long lost sister …… ummm, I would have got that had you not mentioned it. She really doesn't remind me of Angelina at all but I can see where someone would, I guess.

I think she's WAY better looking than Jolie, and probably lacks the horrendous baggage that the big lipped one brings with her.

"Why, Doctor Mainzer! When you take your glasses off, you are beautiful!"

"I think she's WAY better looking than Jolie,"

A friend of mine has been getting a lot of work as an extra out in Hollywood lately. He's been on two sets with Jolie, he says in real life she looks scary, particularly her legs, all ligament and bone.

Streitax12 Mar 2008 11:58 a.m. PST

The same with Angie Harmon, she looks great in those suits on TV, but I saw her on a talks show in a miniskirt and sleeveless top and she is all skin and bones!

And do you think they chose Dr. Mainzer for her academic credentials or her appeal to the types of men who would most likely watch this show? Need I say it? Nerdappeal.

Still, it's better than Helen Keller.

And in Google's wisdom, this webpage is now in the Top 20 Links for "Amy Mainzer"…

Actually, she reminded me of Raquel Welch in Fantastic Voyage, not Angelina Jolie.

andygamer12 Mar 2008 8:41 p.m. PST

Is she interested in the Magnus Pike?

Hi

My wife was a world class scientist. Her curse is that her family consists of women who live to 100. She was still being "carded" into her 40s. She was a small "girl", AND she had this high pitched little girl voice. This ment that in her field, her work was well regarded. But initially in person, people would ask to meet her mother!

Got no respect. People age at different rates.

Rocky, she should meet my little "squeeze"; Size 6 NZ ( about 1 US ), has to shop in the teen departments at all stores, always asked for ID when buying drinks, and until you look close doesn't look at all like early 40s.

She's learnt to cope by being a fiery proponent of anti-bullying and equality issues.
