…(for those of you who weren't at Cold Wars)…

I was there. How did I miss it? Too much beer, I suppose.

Nice artwork, by the way.

I like the one with the Romans. It gives you a real sense of the use of the pilum. The Celt one gives a hint of what a Roman must have experienced, sorta you ain't in Kansas anymore Toto feeling.

Brilliant. Great to see that every aspect of this product is getting the full attention to detail.

Looks like someone was inspired a little too much by the whimsical helmets in HBO's Rome series. That said, the mood and style of the art is quite nice.

mksiebler10 Mar 2008 7:29 p.m. PST

Those look really good.

Hi Tony;

Really nice artwork, with (IMHO) and gritty realistic look to the action.

It was a pleasure meeting you at Cold Wars.

Nice box.

When are you going to start selling these? The suspense is killing me!

The artwork looks great. It captures exactly what I think the Gallic wars looked like.

Now bring on some pictures of the Celt figures. You keep making us Barbari wait for our eye candy! :)

If you make a Celt thats anything close to Foundry's, You have single handedly gotten me into WAB.

Very cool.

NoLongerAMember11 Mar 2008 3:51 a.m. PST

I like the artwork.

Not much use as a colour guide for the models! Far too dark and dismal looking. I can't see these covers appealing to younger buyers or casual purchasers. Of course the finished art may be brighter and have bright logos on them.

abelp0111 Mar 2008 5:46 a.m. PST

When are these figs coming out? Will they include a painting guide?

Austin Rob11 Mar 2008 7:17 a.m. PST

As art, I think they are great.

As covers for product, I think they are a little too dark. I want boxes of miniatures on my store shelves to jump out at people. I feel they'll have to hold them up to the light to see what they are. And as others noted, these will not serve as painting guides. The tone of the picture on the home page of your site is much better as a marketing tool, in my opinion.

Best,

Rob

Very dark and moody as others have said. This is not neccesarilly a bad thing. Especially if the logos etc are bit more eye catching.

I worry that the Celts cover focuses too much on the Romans and doesn't really give a sense of the Celts.

I like them as art, but they are not the most inspiring product boxes I have seen. They wouldn't jump off the shelf at me screaming "buy me! buy me!"

Perhaps a frame of solid colour around the painting on the box cover would make it "pop" more.

Trying to offer a bit of constructive criticsm rather than just a fanboy's "These are Great!"

The dark, moody action actually makes me more interested than I would be in another 'candy colored' bright and shiny box design.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Nikator11 Mar 2008 3:55 p.m. PST

with all due respect, why do the WF folks insist on teasing us with this stuff when you can't buy any of it and there's no release date, not even a tenative one? It's pointless. Maybe they're trying to create buzz…or maybe they figure that if they tease us mercilessly enough we'll become angry, ose our tempers, and make a mistake…..like buy some of their figs? I would very much like to buy one of their Gaul boxes, but they won't let me. Maybe I'll buy somebody else's Gauls, somebody who's NOT a tease.

Harrumph.

Is it real box art, or just computer generated images?

colin knight11 Mar 2008 4:37 p.m. PST

Best wargames/historical artwork I have seen quite simply. Has that epic Lord of the Rings feel/mood almost.

Dormammu12 Mar 2008 2:54 a.m. PST

Except that Lord of the Rings isn't historical.

Packaging just doesn't do it for me. Now a nice miniature, on the other hand…

I'll second that Allen.

colin knight13 Mar 2008 2:37 p.m. PST

"LOR is not historical". Ok has that opening scene from Gladiator movie feel. I.e realistic warfare feel. Anyway beautiful art.

Would that be the realistic great flaming balls of fire moment from Gladiator? Or the bit when the Roman elven archers make with the fire arrows? ;-)
