I am playing it right now, well, not RIGHT now. We are playing the big game. We have abiout 35 hours into it right now, on the 1600 Day 1 turn. Really enjoying it so far, doesnt sound like it from this post, but it moves along really well. We are using the fatigue option, makes for a much better game…

Wow. 35 hours? There was probably only about 30 hours of fighting total for all three days at Gettysburg. I don't know if I could get into a game that takes three times longer to play than the actual battle.

Well, we have 2 players. On the last turn, there were 51 chits in the cup. There are still a lot more reinforcements to come on yet. Right now, it takes about 6 hours to play an hour of game time. This game is at the regimental level, so takes time. Also, we only play once every couple of weeks, so the first hour of play in each session runs a little slow… Also, we are playing the monster scenario, there are lots of shorter ones that only focus on sections of the field…

Great game, but the average playing time is 75 hours for the campaign game. If you would like to try the system, get Gringo or the Bull Run volume as the First Bull Run game is an excellent way to break into the system as it has few units and lets you learn the game system.

I love games that take a while. this one seems to move nicely so far. Ages ago we used to play Fire in the East combined with Scortched Earth. 1.5 years…yes years, to play up to 1943!!, by then you knew who was going to win, At 5 hours a night once a week! Love it!
Anywho this is our first shot at it and started it from the beginning (instead of scenarios)

I would be interested in exchanging rules opinions, interpretations and the like.

Years is fun, did a 2-year version of Empires in Arms many years ago, sometime in the 80's. This game we are playing started in January, and must be done by November. My game room has is mine, except for Thanksgiving and Christmas, when the wife commandeers the 5x15 table for food…

Hessian, feel free to e-mail at andrewturlington @ hotmail.com if you want to discuss the game further, such as rules interpretations, or questions, or whatever else!
