I'm not sure any real Norseman would allowed himself to be seen anywhere near this boat, but the included helmets and shields let you go from weekend sailing party to raiding party in one easy step. Perfect if you run out of beer – or herring.

I will also note that it's currently located within easy driving distance from the Weaver estate.

I have come to understand that there are TMPers who would believe this is exactly what a longship looked like.

Well, at first glance, the shields are all wrong…

Okay, it is not what a longship looked like, but I for sure as hell sail it! It'd be fun!

The thing is--and here's the Maine boat geek coming through--that vessel is only fit for a body of water like Lake Travis, and in no sort of wind at all.

A real longship would perform very differently. Under sail, that thing would lose its gear and go under; and under power, it would have no chance at all in any sort of sea.

On the other hand, if I were in Texas, I would have bought this from him:

…because digging post holes in coleche is no fun at all.

Wussy? A longship fit for a Viking King!

Oh, come on. If anyone here could afford it, you know you'd buy it, just for the silliness of the whole thing.

Sure, given the choice between this and the real thing, I'd probably prefer the real thing. But then, the real thing wouldn't offer nearly the comforts this thing does. And it's just meant to be for "a grand day on the lake," not anything else. I think it's a hoot (which is what it's intended to be).

Besides it's SCA approved.
