Hello all!

Whelp, some of you may have seen my various 25mm Napoleonic collections and my 15mm ACW collection; I just moved, so it is time to make them a home.

Here is the first bit done; a mock up of the table and a single shelf completed. I'll have more as the days go by. Comments and suggestions MORE than welcome!

Enjoy!

Nice cabinet display. That would be nice to have. :o)

Lord Ashram22 Feb 2008 12:04 a.m. PST

Actually I have a second waiting for assembly in the corner of the same wall as the first cabinet. Matches the first; will contain the 25mm Russian Nappys (WIP,) the 15mm ACW Federals, and the 15mm WWII Germans. Then the musket in between, an original pack that I got as a gift as well, and the collection of prints and some canteens and a few kepis.

Oh to have such a room. I am confined to the smallest bedroom converted to a workroom. Only a work desk and cabinets. No room for a gaming table which has to occupy the dining room on an ad hoc basis. (The attic is a weird shape and unusable.) However I have my eye on one of my son's bedrooms. He's already suspicious that he will come back from university and find himself crammed into my old room. Maybe he'll move straight to a new job/home. Maybe in four or five years …….. Maybe my wife will stop laughing….

Superb. Presumably you have somewhere for the port and cigars? This really does look like the ideal spot for gentlemen to engage in a noble pastime. Unlike my games loft, which looks like a teenager's bedroom after the bomb drops.

Artilleryman, if he is already moved out, he has no more rights to that room. Take it over and tell him to bring a sleeping bag when he comes back home :)

is the table hollow? with a sheet/cloth sitting in it

PJ Parent22 Feb 2008 5:37 a.m. PST

I would make more 'leg' for the table – the more storage the better. Did you build the shelves or buy them?

nickinsomerset22 Feb 2008 7:43 a.m. PST

I have just bought a number of plan/map/architect chests from ebay. These are perfect for storing whole armies, my 14 drawers are already full, might need a few more! Pity is they are in the garage, as above my table comes out when it is required, still the 12 x 6 tables fits nicely into the sitting room with plenty of space around it, but in a perfect world the table would rest on the plan cabinets, must win lottery!

Tally Ho!

If the kid is in college and you bought the house, the room belongs to you! He should be thankful for all you have done for him, and thankful you even maintain a bed.

The table is indeed hollow with a sheet at the moment; it was too late at night to drop in the solid base, hence the mock-up… I really wanted to see what it would look like:)

The table legs are prefab from Ikea; something like 35 bucks apiece, and about 10 minutes to assemble each. I just had to add the wheels to the bottom of each leg. Thankfully I also have a large closet to use for storage, and of course the two miniature cabinets.

Glad everyone has enjoyed! It is indeed, so far, a great guy spot. I will get the table done today and post more pictures. There is like 6 inches of snow out there, so who knows, maybe I can get the other cabinet in and a few things hung on the wall.

you lucky bastard:D

I have to ocopy the dining-room table.

and have to pack down all my stuff every time my parents have guests

Great stuff, milord. Projects like that are wonderful and exciting! grin The closets have huge potential as well. ou could even remove the doors and put in shelving or whatever…

My own wargaming room was a dark colour for many years – it made it a little more difficult for digital photography – I found I used to have to play with contrast and gamma corrections a lot. When I put together my shelving (I bought a pile of pine shelving and Plexiglas to make a 12 foot wide wall unit for display), I repainted my room an off white. I found it helped with the photography a lot.

For lighting (my room is a converted basement apartment living room), I installed wall hanger sconce lights that just plugged into outlets and used compact flourescents. The light is great and I don't have to work over time every time I put on a game.

When I was in school (685 years ago!) my teachers told us not to bring in treats unless we had enough for everyone. I hope you too are planning to share. Seriously, it looks great…have fun!

Hey I am in northern New Jersey, so if anyone out there wants a game, I can provide a place and the figures!:)

I got real lucky with the lights; the previous owner had in that room six flood lights that screwed right into the ceiling. I just moved them to center on the table!

Anyway, stuck setting up the surround sound and shoveling and making lunch, but I'll get back to the room soon; table should still be done today.

thumbs up

Having my own gaming room has always been a dream of mine.

Maybe someday.

Nice pics, "LA"

Nice on everything!

Terry L22 Feb 2008 2:53 p.m. PST

Nice room. I also like the idea of your gaming table being on rollers BUT wouldn't that make it a tad shaky? What I'm getting at is someone accidentally nudging the table and knocking over stuff?

donlowry22 Feb 2008 3:16 p.m. PST

Congratulations! Looks great. I too recently acquired a gaming room/den (finally!). See this thread and linked pics:

The 4'x8' table takes up one half of the long narrow room. Since the pics were taken I've added more shelves on one wall (to hold minis, etc., some military prints, two cork bulletin boards (where I can post charts from rules, etc.) and a large map of the ACW. I hope soon to acquire a couple of nice stools for sitting on while playing at the table.

In the other half of the room I have a Lazy Boy chair, my computer (with desk and office chair), a 19" TV (connected to cable and to a VCR/DVD player), a painting desk (under a window), a 4-drawer filing cabinet, my stereo, and one wall lined with 6-foot-tall book shelves.

That is a superb room….. so when can I come over? :-)
