I saw this auction in ebay today: auction A micro machine for 0.99 GBP (likely worth 5 times that in most auctions) but 9.00 GBP shipping to Canada. The actual cost for shipping is likely to be less than half that (tiny ship weighing ounces). I've noticed a couple of shipping costs recently that have been crazy and I wonder if this is a reaction to the fee structure changes? BTW, I'm not objecting to the way shipping and price are set (it is clear enough in the auction; the seller can do as s/he likes). Just interested if anyone else has seen similar reversals in price/shipping and if there has been an upswing recently. |

Yep – I've seen loads of auctions which had horrendous shipping costs and a low starting bid. Buyer beware indeed – don't get caught in the bidding war unless you carefully check the shipping costs! |

Looking at 2007 numbers it still looks withing norms. I wouldn't call it really significant until it goes below 11 million. Haven't noticed a significant increase in the use of high shipping to escape fees. Always been quite a few around. |

"it is clear enough in the auction; the seller can do as s/he likes)." Not exactly- eBay has come down on 'fee dodgers' in the last year or two. I don't know if this is a reaction to the latest rule changes or not- I suspect it's just business as usual. And personally I DO object. It's these shifty operators that have made Ebay tighten up its policies on sellers- including reform of the feedback system to weed out the cowboys. Fact is, they've gone too far and shifted the balance way too far in favour of buyers- hence all the current unrest and 'strikes'. |

the drop is partially due to all the cheap listings ending today, tomorrow will be the telling day for the strike as to how many of these get relisted tonight/tomorrow. |

I still thing the fees should be passed on the the buyer just like sales taxes are. |

I have a fellow that is trying to pass on his ebay fees to me in the form of exhorbidant S&H charges. He is calling it his overhead. |

I charge actual cost or less for shipping I really hate when I find obscene shipping/handling fees :( There is a button somewhere on the auction page that allows one to report it. use it |

I always loosely pack the item and weigh it B4 putting it on ebay, thereby only charging for the price of the box(box city) and shipping. I generally pass on buying items with rediculous s&h fees. What's strange is when I see items bought (or listed) for way more than I could get it for from an online dealer ? *huh* Oh well ? Paul |

What I find odd about that particular auction is that it is listed as being in USA, yet the listign is in £1.00 GBP sterling. shipping is £9.00 GBP for UK, Canada, USA etc. Perhaps it's listed on Ebay.co.uk as the changes haven't come into force on that version yet? |

Hell I sell and I have a 40K fully painted army on ebay, listed 3 times now. The buyers want everything for free, it cost me money to buy paint and put the figures on ebay and then I pay listing fees and paypal fees cause nobody wants to pay with a damn money order anymore. The army was well worth the $300.00 USD asking price and I had free shipping with it, but no takers. the army alone cost me around $280.00 USD you guys sometimes make me sick. GW figures are very expensive and every GW player I try to sell something nice to, wants it for 75% off, you're all nutts! |
