Recently I got elaborate spam mail using my own mail address. This is clearly malicious software, but my main concern is that my add is being used to send spam to others. Is this common? Is there a counter other than changing the mail password frequently (if this works)? J |

Is this common? Yes Is there a counter other than changing the mail password frequently (if this works)? Won't work – has no effect. (They probably aren't sending from your account – they are making the email "lie" about where it is coming from. Unless, that is, your system is infected

I get get a few that I apparently send to myself, plus I've had the odd 'couldn't be delivered' from other addresses – may be spoofs, may be someone spamming via my address. I don't think there is anything you can really do about it. |

Well thanx, Problem is not solved but I'm not alone! Guess that changing the e-mail password will make this a bit more difficult to them. In fact, if the malicious soft is only replacing the sender with the destination address then it's just more spam. It would be serious if they could use your mail to send spam to others, but messing with the main server might prove difficult and non profitable for 'routine' spam – I hope. J |
