Which country? I want St Georges Day to be a holiday, andf the Queens birthday :0) |
| Lowtardog | 15 Feb 2008 4:39 a.m. PST |
Oops, sorry I see you mean the USA. Doesn`t America have its own Patron Saint? surely that would be a better holiday |

It's a provincial holiday here. We end up with a three day work week this year because PAddy's day is Monday off then there's good friday. |

Dave Jackson | 15 Feb 2008 7:19 a.m. PST |

No; it is a religious holiday specifically for Ireland. |

Tim Marshall, where do you live??? Aren't you a Canuck like me? I just find it rather ironic that this was posted to the "Health and Fitness" Board
Cheers w. ps Louis Riel Day 18 February!! |
miniMo | 15 Feb 2008 8:30 a.m. PST |
In the US, it's a drinking holiday. It's not at all religious like it is in Ireland. Us Irish-Americans have evolved into a our own unique ethnicity, much different than the paleo-Irish. And we're proud to have our very own civic vehicle named after us too :} |

Considering that, as miniMo pointed out, in the US, St. Patrick's Day is more of a drinking holiday, shouldn't the day after be made the national holiday? That way you don't have to go in to work. |

"That way you don't have to go in to work." The voice of reason has spoken. |

Tim Marshall, where do you live??? Aren't you a Canuck like me? Mais oui, mais je suis terrenouvian and Newfoundland has so many civi/government holidays! Or at least the software firms I work with in the US are always remarking at how oftten we have long weekends. St patrick's day and what we call orangeman's Day or st george's day are always government holidays here. The past number of years, though the PC movement has these labelled "mid March" and "mid-July" holidays now – see PDF link which is at the university where I work. |

Having the day after as a holiday would be more practical. |
