Any tips on stopping this happening? |

No magical formula here. One is I don't shake them anymore (assuming glass jars with plastic or metal tops). I stir with with a toothpick. Another thing (more work) is I wipe the tops with a rag before fastening the lid and I don't screw it on super tight. |

Yes, keep the rims clean & don't let paint accumulate in the top. |

Mmmmm tried those unfortunately because of how I paint etc they do get tipped over a bit when done up and so get gunked up
.I was thinking along the lines of vaseline or some other magic solution!! |

Vaseline used to work on humbrel enamel pots. |

Another vote for stocking tops, further confused by the vaseline reference. :-) |

archstanton73, get a nutcracker or a pair of adjustable pliers (what I use) to open those stubborn tops. Problem gone. |

Yes, stir your paints. It mixes them more thoroughly, lets you fish out any congealed gunk at the same time, and the lid maintains its factory sealing quality much longer. For 30 years I used to shake up my paint bottles. Then I tried stirring. Can't understand why I didn't try it sooner. |
