I just received in the mail the new Robert Griffing book, 'The Narrative Art of Robert Griffing'. paramountpress.com Like the first book, this thing is a beautiful piece of work and a must have for fans of the French & Indian War and/or Eastern Native American Culture. Mine came personalized to me, as I called Paramount Press on Friday while Mr. Griffing was there doing some signings! There is maybe 4-5 images that were in the first book, and they appear to be more of the reference size/nature when talking of other paintings. The rest is all new images that haven't been shown in book format. There is a lot of narrative and insight from the artist as well, giving an even more indepth appreciation for the meterial presented. Most people know me as a somewhat rough around the edges kind of person, and those who have more intimate knowledge of me know that i'm a 'tough guy'. This book, like the first, put a glaze in my eyes and a lump in my throat as I imagined what my peoples lives were like back then, and saw a good , believable interpretation of it presented in this book. Buy it I say, or I'll scalp you. Ahem. -Eric conquestminiatures.com |

With some of these middle-aged gamers, you'd have some mighty bare scalps. |

The first book was so awesome that I would buy the second one sight unseen. He is a terrific artist that conveys a real sense of personality to the subjects that he paints. |

Is the narative and insight mostly about the sunject of the paintings or is it about how he works? I always find the later the most interesting but I realise I'm not representative of the majority of the people buying this book. |

I've met Griffing on a number of occasions and he is a super nice guy as well as a talented artist. We both live and work in Pittsburgh and our paths have crossed frequently. If you ever get a chance to meet him, do so. |

Thanks for the heads up Eric. I have used the first one extensively as a reference for painting Conquest figures. It's actually gotten so much use that the binding is a bit loose now. I'll be picking up the second one as soon as the bank account recovers from all of the Conquest marines and fronteirsmen and Eureka F&I provincial troops I bought this week. Lee, did you just say "cowboy up" to an Indian? Methinks you have a genital cuff in store at Historicon. |

Yes. The reference was intentional. ;-) |

I will also add this to my library (book shelf). My wife just gave me his print "On the Trail to Fort Pitt". It's over my fireplace. Just beautiful. link |
