I'm looking for a good board game to play for the Franco Prussian War.

What I'm looking for in a game is…
Something that is suitable for Solo Play.

More of a Tactical feel, than an Army Stategic game.
Does such an animal exist.

Thanks
Joe

Many Thanks DM;

I checked BGG earlier but didn't see al of these.

I also just registered with them too.

Do you have any of the games posted that you'd recommend?

Thanks
Joe

You could get the "1870" miniatures rules by Bruce Weigle and make some terrain pieces out of felt and make counters for the units and have a go with it. It would take a bit of work to get everything prepared, but it might be a lot of fun once you played it. The 1870 rules are grand tactical – each base is an infantry battalion. Ther aren't too many tactical games on this topic w/o being miniatures type games.

Thanks coopman;

I do have the 1870 rules by Bruce, sitting in my attic.

I might have to give that a try.

In a way, I guess I'm trying to find something that plays like a miniatures game, without the space needed and set up for an actual miniatures game.

I keep seeing posts about the Ancients Game "Command and Colours" and wanted to do something like that for the FPW.

I did see some interesting board games of BGG website.

Your idea would be a neat project to get into and also help learn the rules.

Good gaming;
Joe

Joe,

You could certainly take the "Battle Cry" ACW game designed by the same author (Richard Borg) as Command & Colors and revise it for FPW games. Do you have that game? If not, I can help you out with a copy of the rules – the game is out of print now. My e-mail address is ccooper827@charter.net

Clay
