I am in the finishing stages of a painting and would appreciate some help. if anyone has been a signaller RN they may known.
In the painting a Corvette is hove too, picking up survivors from a German submarine, which is on the surface (but sinking) close too ahead.
She wishes to communicate her status to merchant ships of the convoy, as they pass.
I believe
.and this may be incorrect
. The signal should be ONE BLACK BALL to indicate not underway. Square red flag to indicate submarine in the area. Blue diagonal cross on white for picking up survivors.
Ive dragged all that up by spending a ridiculous amount of time looking through Nicholls Seamanship, 1937.
Any help would be appreciated.
