Hi all

I've been thinking about running a WWII campaign in my local club but I am unsure what system to use for the campaign itself, so I thought I would put it out there and see if anyone here had any thoughts or suggestions

so what I'm looking for is a map based game that can be used to run the campaign at a divisional level with the battles either played out on the table top (using FoW) or maybe by a simple combat system
e.g if an army is outnumbered 10 – 1 there is no point in playing the game on the table you may as well have a simple system to resolve it.

I thought about using a hex based map, with armies having a points value and that points value could then be used to work out the size of the forces that would be used on the table top. I guess really I could use a board game (maybe one of the Avalon Hill games)

so does anyone have any ideas, the campaign will be based in North Africa if that helps

cheers

Mike

Our group here usually prints a map, and uses a scale for time and battlegroup movement. Battlegroups have a number of points or troops allocated at the beginning of the campaign, and movement is per day, say maybe an inch equals a day of movement. When battlegroups are within an inch, an actual tabletop game is played and casualties are subtracted from the forcepool. Battlegroups can also be faster or slower depending on the overall composition of the battlegroup. Getting ready to do a NATO vs Warsaw Pact campaign in this manner with FOT and some 15mm figs. Hopefully I can get some pics uploaded as soon as we start.

I would use "DAK2" by "the Gamers": link

If this one is to complex/expensive you could consider "Afrika" instead: link

ODGDW have been long out of print, but if you can find them, they are 50 miles per hex, and can cover a huge portion of europe per map. Several games are out there, and even at that scale, you would need an airplane hanger to cover europe, asia, the middle east etc.

You might also try "France 1940". I lost my copy many years ago, but it doe's have some interesting terrain.

Check out battlevault.com for a couple of suggestions. They have a Kusrk campaign going on now and they had a Battle of the Bulge campaign a few years ago using BKC.
